Principal's Address

Hillview is passionate about providing quality teaching and learning within a Christian environment.

As a community of learners, we are clear about fulfilling two mandates for our pupils:

1. To identify, cultivate, celebrate and enhance the God-given gifts and abilities of each pupil
2. To intentionally grow an authentic love and respect for God while seeking to further His kingdom by impacting society through service and leadership

Our school’s grace-based culture is founded on six Biblical values that directly impact on how we interrelate with parents, pupils, staff, and the wider community. The school skilfully delivers the national educational curriculum within the framework of a Christian worldview. Hillview also provides a vast and wonderful range of curricular and extra-curricular opportunities that enable children to flourish.

Please take the time to visit our school website and see for yourself the wonderful opportunities we offer our students and parent community. I invite you to contact the school office if you have any further enquiries.

Many blessings,

Steve Frost

Hillview Christian School was established in 1977 and for the first 15 years, the school was known as St Martins Private School and the school was open only to children from families that were part of the founding church. In 1994 the school, for the first time, accepted pupils from outside of the church that founded the school. This precipitated a name change to St Martins Christian School in 1995 and then in 2001 St Martins changed to Hillview to avoid confusion with the nearby St Martins School. Since integration there has been a substantial increase in the school roll, from 84 in 1995 to just under our current roll cap of 520.

Hillview is a Year 0-10 school with a roll of 560. The school has a decile rating of 6 which means that we have a mixed socio-economic parent community. The school community is principally from the east and south of Christchurch city and a wide cross-section of churches are represented by our school families.

The school is situated in St Martins which is located in the south-east of Christchurch near the foot of the Port Hills. The junior school (the original site) is located on the east side of Wilsons Road while the senior school is on the opposite side of the road, about 150 metres south of the original school.
